MoT Brighton

The MOT Test

Currently when a car reaches 3 years old it needs to be presented for an MOT test and there after every 12 months. The MOT test on your vehicle will be carried out by one of our MOT Testers who are also fully qualified technicians approved by VOSA, the Government appointed Vehicle Operator Services Agency.

To Book an MOT Appointment with 1st Class Garage Brighton

We have MOT appointments available each weekday and on a Saturday morning, so you can book a time to suit you. The MOT Test usually takes up to an hour. The test is designed to ensure that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards, when tested. Without a valid MOT your car should not be driven on a public road. However you can drive your car on a public road if it has been Pre-Booked and is being driven to and from an MOT Test Centre by the most direct route.

The MOT Certificate

MOT tests can be carried out on your car up to one month prior to the expiry date of an existing MOT certificate. In this case start date for your new MOT will be from expiry date of the current MOT rather than the date which the test has been carried out.

You should be aware that the MOT certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your car, you should have your car serviced regularly to maintain its mechanical condition.

We not only specialise in MOT testing and MOT repairs but all other aspects of vehicle maintenance and care at our conveniently located service centre in Kemptown, which is just a short walk to Brighton City Centre. Our fully trained staff are here to help and happy to discuss any problems or queries you may have with your vehicle.

MOT Testing Paperwork

In April 2005 the Government introduced a scheme to computerise all MOT paperwork. The result improved the quality and accuracy of MOT tests and documents. Reduced fraud and theft of MOT documents. Improved administration and consumer protection while ensuring MOT standards are more consistent between garages.

MOT Status of Car

One of the main benefits for drivers is that they can check the MOT status of any vehicle that they own, or are thinking of buying. You can do this by phoning 0870 330 0444 or by visiting the MOT computerisation web site at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status. To check a vehicle's MOT status you will need the vehicle registration and either the MoT test number or a VT30 Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate.

The system will not only provide the MOT status of the vehicle, but information on the make and model, MOT expiry date, and the mileage of the vehicle at the time of its MOT test. This information is intended to enable potential buyers of a second-hand vehicle to make a well informed decision about its roadworthiness.

At 1st Class Garage we have fully implemented this new procedure. All of our MOT results are now recorded on the centralised database.
